Date of Travel: Nov 2007 Flying from: London Heathrow Airport Flying to: Rome Fiumicino Airport Class: Economy Recommended: No Submitted By: Anita Green Comments: I have flown British Airways before on a 1p flight and had excellent service, with hot food, free drinks etc. This time I paid full price with my airmiles and the flight was delayed and the plane changed, so having booked in on line and choosing seats these were no longer the same extra leg room seats booked. The plane was really old and tatty. My partner's seat had no head cushion and the pocket was falling off in front. The meal consisted of what they called a bacon brioche but was in fact cold bacon in a finger roll with tomato ketchup, disgusting. The coffee was insipid, even the stewards were saying it looked a bit weak but did nothing to rectify it. Think I will stick to the cheap BA flights that they have just sold off to Easyjet. This smacked of cheap airline but with the added bonus of paying full price.
Date of Travel: Nov 2007 Flying from: Rome Fiumicino Airport Flying to: London Heathrow Airport Class: Economy Recommended: No Submitted By: Anita Green Comments: This flight was delayed for over an hour with no information provided. The flight was half empty which meant we could spread out which was good. The crew were jovial rather than professional, but this was ok as it gave an atmosphere on the half empty plane. The food was a sandwich and chocolate bar - hardly inspiring at 9pm when you have paid more than twice the price of a no frills airline and you have sat around waiting in an airport lounge for hours. This flight was ok but gave no more than a no frills airline other than a sandwich and a drink - not really worth the extra £200 odd more than a no frills. BA used to be really good but I wouldn't pay for them again
Date of Travel: Nov 2007 Flying from: London Heathrow Airport Flying to: Hong Kong International Airport Class: Economy Recommended: Yes Submitted By: CC Comments: Everything about BA was disappointing for such a large airline. I am an emerald One-World member, but that did not get me any special treatment. My wife and I checked in at Heathrow more than 3 hours before the flight and was told that every economy-class seat in the 747 has been booked by people who checked in on the internet, and so there were only 4 seats left for us to choose. Typically on other One-World airlines, an emerald member would get priority seating, but not BA.
The check-in lady told us that one of us would be sitting directly in the seat behind. When we got on the plane, we were actually on the same row but separated by an aisle and two seats. We looked around the plane and found about half the passengers were people who didn't look like they were the type to check in prior to flying (eg. old people in their 60s, 70s). So I take it the BA lady must have hated us and wanted to separate us.
The one check-in luggage rule for economy class per person is absurd and impractical. We tried very hard to fit all our things into 2 bags - even though we were comfortable within the weight allowance.
The first-class lounge had every tom, dick and harry there, and it was not easy finding a seat.
The seat on the plane was not comfortable. Food and services were very average too.
Don't fly BA unless you are flying first or business, or unless it is an emergency and you have no other choice.

I will never use them again.

Date of Travel: Aug 2007 Flying from: London Gatwick Airport Flying to: Naples Capodichno Airport Class: Business Recommended: No Submitted By: MR G Payne Comments: British Airways Honeymoon from Hell – I feel so strongly regarding the inexcusable treatment from BA that we have had to endure I have no other option that to explain the sequence of events, I will try to keep this brief:
On Monday 6th Aug we flew out on our Honeymoon via BA Club Class at Gatwick destined for the romantic Amalfi coast in Italy.
We both checked our luggage into the Airport and enjoyed the fast check in procedure only to discover that when we arrived on a direct flight to Naples my Wife's suitcase did not get sent
with her. Two days into our honeymoon with numerous phone calls and time allocated to BA and we were both still none the wiser. BA then assured us they had now located her suitcase and it was to be flown out on the next available flight. Excellent we thought it's not been lost and we can now get on and enjoy our honeymoon; oh how wrong we were!
After assuring us they had now found my wife's suitcase and flew it to Naples we were then sickened to discover that they had actually sent us somebody else's suitcase with my wife's nametag! As you can imagine my wife by now was at breaking point, extremely upset, without important medication, nothing to wear and BA still were still far from interested. Every day that passed BA did not have any additional information regarding our lost case.
With a glimmer of hope they then proceeded to inform us it had be found, re scanned and provided us with a new flight number and flight time. We then hired a taxi and traveled on a 5 hour round trip back to Naples Airport to collect our case only to discover we had been lied to once again by BA and our suitcase was still not found! After more phone calls they could not explain themselves as to why they provided us with the wrong information, more expense and more wasted time. BA was then insistent that Naples Airport had the suitcase and not them. As we were traveling back to the area before moving to our final destination we thought we would search the Airport; which I might add was 10 rooms filled floor to ceiling with lost luggage - yes you guessed it we had been lied to once again, more wasted time and expense on false information provided by BA.
Unfortunately this has left us with memories of wanting to forget our honeymoon rather than remembering it. We are both absolutely disgusted and appalled with the treatment from British Airways as a considerable amount of time and money has been spent on our honeymoon trying to re locate our suitcase and buy clothes in order to make do, (not what we was expecting to contend with) we have now returned from our honeymoon 10 days after we departed and still my wife's bag is missing and BA are still none the wiser as to what they have done with it.
The whole experience has been extremely distressful and upsetting for us both, we now have to contend with filling in all the necessary paperwork and contacting insurance companies in order to recoup some of the loss, we will never use British Airways again nor would not recommend them to anyone else either.
Quotes from various British Airways staff
‘It's not usual for us to loose luggage'
‘Tags on suitcases can be switched quite easily'
‘Your suitcase may have not boarded the plane as weight restrictions can have an impact on pollution and environmental conditions'.
Date of Travel: Jul 2007 Flying from: London Heathrow Airport Flying to: Melbourne airport Class: Economy Recommended: No Submitted By: Natalia Comments: Just back home after flying with British Airways and Qantas and what a stressful experience that was. Had to travel with BA because the travel agency has a contract with them. Will never ever select it myself and definitely would not recommend it to anyone. All the flights were late. The flight from Rome landed in the middle of nowhere near terminal 5. Before flying from London to Melbourne (almost 20 hours as it is) we had to sit inside the plane for 2 hours because the loud speakers were not working. The entertainment system was not working most of the time and the crew could not turn the light off at night on the second part of the flight from London to Melbourne. The food was really bad all the way and on the second half of the above-mentioned flight we did not even have a choice of meals. The staff was very unfriendly and unhelpful. To top it all up, all our luggage was lost and they do not seem to be making any effort to find it. It seems no-one knows whether it even made it to London. Definitely the worst airline we have ever used.
Date of Travel: Jul 2007 Flying from: Cape Town International Airport Flying to: London Heathrow Airport Class: Economy Recommended: No Submitted By: MJK Comments: 6 flights in and out of LHR with BA - all late, baggage late and the new in-flight entertainment system does not work. Staff actively encouraging passengers to complain about the ongoing poor service. Staff openly complaining about cost cutting and staff shortages the reason for poor service and how management are killing off the BA name. Not very encouraging for our national airline.

We flew premier economy because we like to pinch pennies. However I am a seasoned traveler amongst all classes.
They do not supply infants with any sort of food through out all long haul flights.. My flight was 10 hours and 30 minutes. And that does not include checking in and out of the airports.
My little boy cried in hunger and I felt so bad for him. Especially since security did not allow us to bring any other food in the airport to feed him.. Nor any water bottles!
My movie screen didn't work, the flight was also 1 and 1/2 hours late... ect ect.. And they did not order vegan meals for me and my daughter and my poor husband had to share between the two babies.. This left us extremely hungry.
To put it bluntly British airways is a waste of money.. For the same price I could have had business class on another airline and received much better service and more amenities.

They are the only airline flying into Sydney at 6am that don't give a cooked breakfast. Breakfast served in a paper bag with water, juice, yoghurt, gooey muffin, cup for coffee.
The food on BA is disgusting! Dinner out of Bangkok was bad and you would have to guess at what you were eating. Emirates, Qantas, Thai Airways, Singapore all give cooked breakfast.
Sorry BA but never again will I put foot on one of you aircraft.
Date of Travel: Mar 2007 Flying from: London Gatwick Airport Flying to: Alicante Airport Class: Low Cost Seat Recommended: Yes Submitted By: Anita Comments: We got 1p flights to Alicante which meant with taxes it cost just £26 return each. We checked in 24hrs before hand online and chose our seats - exit seats with extra leg room (no extra charge). A meal was included (not great but airline food never is). Also included were free drinks. This was absolutely excellent value and although there was a bit of a delay on the way out (due to wheelchair passengers not turning up on time) the staff were cheerful and helpful and this is the best flight I have been on in a long time and the cheapest.
Date of Travel: Mar 2007 Flying from: London Gatwick Airport Flying to: Izmir Adnan Mend Airport Class: Economy Recommended: Yes Submitted By: Heather Moles Comments: Well the flights both ways were very smooth and excellent landings and we were completely on time both ways.
The plane was a bit tatty and it was a shame they didn't have any music available - good job I took my own!
The service was fine except on the late return flight when all I wanted to do was sleep they kept making announcements every five minutes.
The food was ok on the way there.....cold but Ok...on the way back it was basically the same.
As for value for money flights to Turkey are expensive...it's actually cheaper to go on a package holiday with everything thrown in! However these weren't too bad as I booked them a while ago!
No real problems at all and would definitely use them again.

Onboard entertainment was 5 star! Food was alright but could be improved! Staff really friendly and didn't see them once without a smile on their face! Aircraft was spotless! Aircraft was fresh and cool but not like some airlines were they put the air conditioning up so much you freeze! Constantly handing out drinks whenever we required them! If we wanted water, cold fresh water was available at the back of the aircraft! They gave us snacks (nuts, biscuits) every hour!
Flight wasn't delayed 1 second, infact gate closed at normal time, we boarded at normal time but when we got on it didn't feel rushed yet we still took of earlier than intended which was great as we got to JFK quicker so we could have more time in USA!
LHR T4 isn't the best terminal but fine for 1hr! But, I am still looking forward to the new T5! That will be great!
Our relatively new Boeing 747 -400 took off and landed like a dream! Didn't realise we had landed when we did until those mega great engines roared in and made the whole class happy!
WOW! I will definitely fly with BRITISH AIRWAYS Again! God Bless BA!

Very disappointed - food was cold, seats were cramped and tatty, I travelled in a large group and we had to fight with the check in staff so we could sit together! And on the way back we all got split up sitting all over the plane. Headphones for in-flight entertainment didn't work. The list goes on. The worst thing by far was the service from the in-flight crew, they were rude and miserable which only made the flying experience a thousand times worse. I love to fly. But never again will I set foot on a BA plane.

They ran out of alcohol as they said they did not stock enough although no one drank that much! They self congratulated themselves on what hard work they did on the flight and the passengers jeered this arrogant and false self proclamation. They gave out customer service cards only to first class passengers who they gave away free bottles of champagne. And to top it off they were late arriving and lost my bags. Date of Travel: Dec 2006 Flying from: London Heathrow Airport Flying to: Oslo Gardermoen Airport Class: Economy Recommended: Yes Submitted By: Jo Comments: We flew from Heathrow at the time of all the fog chaos...... We only waited outside the terminal for half an hour and we were looked after fairly well, although I must say that I thought that they should have let people with babies inside, instead of making them wait outside in the bitter cold. There were huge queues inside however our flight was called to the front immediately. The flight only took off about 15 mins late.
I have only ever had one complaint about BA - the food. Everything else is perfect, the seat pitch, comfort, entertainment, service is all good. However they only ever serve Cheese or Cheese and Ham sandwiches. Great if you like cheese...... at 7am in the morning when you are starving and have had an early start it is a real disappointment. When we flew in August I sent an email to them suggesting that maybe they can occasionally change their cheese options! (A very humorous email!) Well to my delight on this flight to Oslo, the sandwiches served were excellent and not a bit of cheese in sight! They have obviously changed the meals completely and it has made a huge improvement. Well done BA for actually listening to your customers! (I know other people who have complained).
We have only ever been delayed once with BA and that was in JFK when the baggage took 2 hours to load and then the water pipe froze to the plane........ Both circumstances out of there control. We will continue to fly with them on all short haul flights to Europe.

Date of Travel: Nov 2006 Flying from: Birmingham International Airport Flying to: Geneva International Airport Class: Economy Recommended: No Submitted By: Kerry Ferguson Comments: BA Connect flight at 11:00 on 17 November. The flight was cancelled at 10:30 with no explanation - presumably because there were so few people on it.
We were eventually sent by coach to Heathrow for the 13:20 flight but missed it. No one was there to meet us or help in any way. We were told that they did not know were were coming, although we had seats booked on that flight. No meal vouchers were offered until we asked.
Eventually we caught the 15:00 flight to Geneva. No apologies were offered in any way, nor upgrades. An easy way to have said \"sorry\" would have been to upgrade us as only 3 people were in that section of the aircraft!
We eventually arrived about five hours late.
The return flight on 21 November had 8 passengers on a 50 seat aircraft!

Oyinloye Comments: I flew with this airline from Lagos via Heathrow to Manchester but the airline managed to lose both of my luggages. One of my bags was returned after about a week, but almost 4 months after I am yet to receive the other bag. The phone number to call is a premium line and they keep you on hold forever. When you finally manage to get through the staff make you feel they are doing you a favor. I certainly will not be using this airline again. If I could give them minus 20stars for baggage handling I would.

BA consistently work out cheaper than Virgin and offer a better customer service experience. The flight from to and from MIA was on time as was the connection to NCL, the food was as good as any on the way out not as good on the way back but the American stuff never is. AA and Virgin come up short on entertainment the World Traveler package is excellent on a return flight with AA seat back TVs were not provided, never been the case with BA. Will use again and again.
Date of Travel: Oct 2006 Flying from: Edinburgh Airport Flying to: London Heathrow Airport Class: Economy Recommended: No Submitted By: Chun Lee Comments: My wife and I travelled on LHR-GLA and returned on EDI-LHR in economy in last October. Why I only posted my sharing after almost one year is that not only we have a bad experience in our trips but much worse is what happened in the last one year in pursuing with BA.
We travelled on electronic tickets (very common nowadays). As we started our journey from HKG on a partner airline of BA, the electronic tickets for the BA segments were also issued by this partner airline as well. Though it is very common for partner airlines to issue tickets for their partners, I still took the trouble in counter-checking with BA and got an email from BA with confirmation code and details on both BA segments.
However, all my efforts proved to be futile. During check-in for LHR-GLA, we were told that our electronic tickets were invalid for travel on BA. Only after 30 minutes of clarification over the counter and in the BA ticket office, we were allowed boarding. To our surprise, we encountered the same problem when we took the 2nd leg from EDI-LHR on the same electronic tickets. This time, we were held up for even longer, 45 minutes, in front of an arrogant and indifferent check-in staff. At last, we were of course allowed boarding again but without a single word of apology. Nevertheless, these were not the worse things.
After the trip, I sent two letters to BA in Oct and Nov 2006 for complaint. Since Feb 2007, I sent emails to BA every two months to enquire about the progress in handling my complaint. However, up till now, we had no reply from her customer service department (CSD). Not a single word was heard from the CSD.
In the BA website, BA 'proudly' tells the public that: 'Customer satisfaction and the opinion of all of our stakeholders is key to defining our success'; and 'We believe it is important to share customer feedback as widely as possible throughout British Airways in order to maintain focus on the customer.'
Based on my encountering with BA in different aspects ranging from direct contacts in the airport to complaints by letter and email, I can say from my heart that BA not just fails in her promising but scores 'Zero'. As BA had such a CSD to back up and indulge her inferior service and staff, nobody can expect good service from BA and I definitely will not travel on BA again. I 'highly recommend' all my friends NOT to travel on BA.
Date of Travel: Jun 2006 Flying from: London Heathrow Airport Flying to: Aberdeen Airport Class: Economy Recommended: No Submitted By: Sam Lynch Comments: We missed our first flight, BA kindly changed the flights free of charge to the next morning. On arrival to Heathrow, the self-checkin would not let us check in, so we went to the check-in desk, the lady was very helpful but noticed that our flight change had not been activated. We then had to run over to the sales desk to get it sorted.
When we finally got to departures, we did not have a long wait to boarding. But when we got to the gate we then found that BA had done an Aircraft change and did not tell any of the staff. When seats we finally sorted, we sat on the hot, smelly, uncomfortable aircraft waiting for the catering to be done, only to find that the captain canceled it to keep on time. By the time we got to the runway catering could have been done 10 times over. For our flight all we got was free orange juice tomato juice and blackcurrant.
We were overall 30mins late on arrival to Aberdeen. We shall not be using British Airways again!!
Date of Travel: May 2006 Flying from: London Gatwick Airport Flying to: Lanzarote Airport Class: Economy Recommended: Yes Submitted By: M Wright Comments: Check in was amazingly efficient & very friendly. They were extremely helpful with my disabled mother, including getting her on & off the plane at each end. The service on board was excellent, even though the flight was busy, we didn't feel as though we had been forgotten about & the food was great!
Air crew were polite throughout. We did leave 20 minutes late on the flight out, but this was due to a late passenger & therefore not the airlines fault. We made time up anyway as the wind was behind us! Collecting baggage was pretty quick too, but I guess that just depends on whether your bags come out first or last! No hiccups in this area though.
One of the best flights I've been on, second only to Qantas. I would recommend BA based on this experience, but I do feel that the overall quality of any flight depends on the crew & whether they are tired & how they deal with it. On this particular occasion, the staff remained professional regardless. Very pleased!

Date of Travel: Jan 2006 Flying from: London Heathrow Airport Flying to: Toronto Pearson International Airport Class: Economy Recommended: Yes Submitted By: James Farnan Comments: Excellent flight from Heathrow to Toronto by BA. Best service, friendly staff and very good in flight entertainment. Also the return journey from New York was excelent. Will travel by BA again.
Connecting flights. Dublin to Heathrow and return. In Dublin our luggage was booked through to Toronto via Heathrow and also on the reverse flight from New York. This allowed us the freedom of to get from one terminal to another quicker.
Toronto to Newark in New York. This flight was provided by Air Canada and took only 45 minutes. Excellent flight however Newark is about 1 hour from New York city .The flight provided a light refreshment .
All in all the arrangements provided by Slattery travel was excellent.
The only issues we had was with the amount of wasted time at security in Heathrow airport. On both journeys it took us 40 minutes to go through the security barrier. In JFK on the return journey they have an excellent procedure in which you must stay to one side and prepare (remove belts, shoes ect) before you get in to the security line. It only took 5 minutes to complete this exercise. If I was to give advice to travellers it would be to put coins mobile phones ect in to you hand luggage. This helps speed up the whole process at all airports.
Date of Travel: Aug 2005 Flying from: London Heathrow Airport Flying to: Bangkok International Airport Class: Economy Recommended: No Submitted By: Val Comments: It was a horror of the flight for me, my wife and our son. The arrogance of the crew treating anyone in the 'kettle' class is disgusting. My son was thirsty and asked for some water. These people (the crew) were entertaining themselves in the galley. After pressing the service button, I was waiting for 20 minutes to get hostess to approach me, cancel the call and disappear again. I finally helped myself with the water. When complained I was explained that she was busy (in the middle of the night) and intended to attend my call later. I was left to wonder what she was busy with. The rest of the flight wasn't better. I was constantly given 'the evil stare' for complaining. The crew is bullying the passengers. NEVER AGAIN with BA.

Return flight was no better than the first with regards to time keeping. My flight was 2 hours delayed so I was switched to an earlier flight which was fantastic. except this to ended up being 2 hours delayed also.
Uneventful flight back to London, apart from horrible Prawn salad they served up

On the return journey when we were served with a selection of sandwiches i mentioned to another steward that i did not like the selection, he went off and got me some cheese and biscuits from 1st class.
